Cat Surrender Assistance

Surrender requests require prior review and approval. Never bring or leave a cat at the shelter without authorization.

Do Not Bring or Leave a Cat Without Approval

Submitting a request or paying a fee does not guarantee that Hopewell Humane Society can accept a cat. Capacity, health, behavior, documentation, and available resources are reviewed before intake is approved.

Surrender Fees

Fees help cover required vaccinations and intake care.

$100If the cat is already spayed or neutered
$150If the cat is not spayed or neutered
Payment of a surrender fee does not guarantee acceptance. Do not pay or arrive until the shelter has reviewed the request and provided instructions.

Records and Intake

Provide complete veterinary records, including rabies-vaccination documentation when required by the current intake policy. The shelter will confirm exactly what documentation is needed during review.

Do not arrange vaccinations or treatment solely for surrender without first speaking with the shelter unless the cat needs immediate veterinary care.

When Surrender May Not Be the Best Solution

For behavior concerns, speak with a veterinarian and a qualified feline behavior professional. For medical concerns, contact a veterinarian promptly. Pain, illness, fear, and environmental stress can cause sudden behavior changes.

Self-Service Rehoming Options

When the shelter cannot accept a cat, a direct rehoming service may help you safely find a new home while the cat remains with you.

Screen potential adopters carefully, disclose known medical and behavior information, and transfer veterinary records.
